The conventional wisdom is that apart from axisymmetry, quasisymmetry cannot be achieved perfectly throughout a volume. Here it is shown that in fact, both quasi-axisymmetry and quasi-helical symmetry can be achieved numerically to high precision over a significant volume. In particular, throughout toroidal regions with experimentally relevant aspect ratios, imperfections in quasisymmetry intrinsic to the magnetic configuration can be reduced to the level of extrinsic error fields.
