Title: Strong Nonlinearity of MHD Stability in Stellarators
Abstract:
In stellarators, one of characteristics on MHD is strong nonlinearity. Because, sophisticated mode couplings of the 3D equilibrium and instability must be considered, and those saturated nonlinearly. For example, in the LHD experiment, although the Mercier criterion predict the linearly unstable plasma, the non-disruptive discharge could be realized. The dissipation and damping mechanisms are still mysteries. In this talk, some of results from 3D nonlinear simulations will be discussed to understand the strong nonlinearity of MHD in stellarators.
